Nonmember husband or wife - what to do?

D.C. 74:

1For the aunbelieving bhusband is csanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; else were your children unclean, but now are they holy.

Sometimes people join the church and their spouse doesn't. What should a wife or a husband do who has been commanded to join the church in Missouri but who has a spouse who isn't a member (and obviously isn't going to move)? Stay with the spouse. Don't move to Missouri.

I think this is very useful advice that still pertains to today. For instance, there are many times that someone could get baptized, but they have 2 kids with a guy and are only living together. It's easy for missionaries to say, "move" or "have him move out." And while it would help her join the church and avoid a serious sin, it also separates a family. That's never a good solution.

The Lord wants families to stay together. The church shouldn't be causing separation, but unity. And, it's possible that the husband or wife joins the church with the good example of the spouse.

Have a great day.
