Scriptures teach us - should impact us

In Mosiah 25 and 28 we find two different examples of new scriptures being brought to King Mosiah's people. There's the records of Zeniff and the records of the Jaredites. Here's the people's reaction to these records:

Mosiah 25

And now, when Mosiah had made an end of reading the records, his people who tarried in the land were struck with wonder and amazement.
For they knew not what to think; for when they beheld those that had been delivered aout of bondage they were filled with exceedingly great joy.
And again, when they thought of their brethren who had beenaslain by the Lamanites they were filled with sorrow, and even shed many tears of sorrow.
10 And again, when they thought of the immediate goodness of God, and his power in delivering Alma and his brethren out of the hands of the Lamanites and of abondage, they did raise their voices and give thanks to God.
11 And again, when they thought upon the Lamanites, who were their brethren, of their sinful and apolluted state, they were filled with bpain and anguish for the cwelfare of their souls.

Mosiah 28

17 Now after Mosiah had finished atranslating these brecords, behold, it gave an account of the people who were cdestroyed, from the time that they were destroyed back to the building of thedgreat tower, at the time the Lord econfounded the language of the people and they were scattered abroad upon the face of all the earth, yea, and even from that time back until the creation of Adam.
18 Now this account did cause the people of Mosiah to mourn exceedingly, yea, they were filled with sorrow; nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice.

The people learned a lot from the records and were clearly impacted by them. I hope they do the same for us.
