After Matthew shows that Jesus does miracles of all kinds (controlling the weather, casting out devils, healing of woman touching his garments, healing blind and man with palsy, raising child from dead, healing "all manner of diseases and sicknesses) by all kinds of people (woman, men, young children, Romans, Jews, "all people"), Matthew tells us that Jesus called "laborers into the vineyard" and his first major step in doing so was calling Apostles.
Jesus said there was a problem with the children of Israel being lost - Matthew 9:
36¶But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved withacompassion on them, because bthey fainted, and were scattered abroad, as csheep having no dshepherd.
37Then saith he unto his disciples, The aharvest truly isplenteous, but the blabourers are few;
38Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Their role was to bless the lives of people and bring them to Christ. Jesus told them: dfreely ye have received, freely egive. A great principle for holders of the Priesthood to bless the lives of others with it as much and as often as possible.
Success for the disciples didn't mean all would love them. All didn't love Jesus.
25It is enough for the disciple athat he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
It is interesting that Matthew addressed this question: Why didn't Jesus keep the same church organization that existed? He couldn't. You can't put new wine into old bottles because the bottles burst. Likewise, the old church organization couldn't handle the new doctrine. Therefore, Jesus needed to call new laborers into the vineyard, which he did as part of his ministry, along with the miracles, and the fulfillment of prophecy.
