2 Nephi 10 and 11 - Nephi delights in showing Christ will come

Nephi purposefully chose to use Jacob's words to teach about Christ because Jacob was an eyewitness of Christ. So was Isaiah; Nephi talks about the need to use witnesses to prove things and that God has done that abundantly regarding Christ.

Here's verses explaining Nephi's thinking:

2 And now I, Nephi, write ^amore of the words of ^bIsaiah, for my soul delighteth in his words. For I will liken his words unto my people, and I will send them forth unto all my children, for he verily ^csaw my ^dRedeemer, even as I have seen him.

3 And my brother, Jacob, also has ^aseen him as I have seen him; wherefore, I will send their words forth unto my children to prove unto them that my words are true. Wherefore, by the words of^bthree, God hath said, I will establish my word. Nevertheless, God sendeth more ^cwitnesses, and he proveth all his words.

Also, I think Jacob's conclusion to his 4 chapters on Isaiah is great - reconcile your actions with the way God wants you to live (as it brings happiness, joy, etc.), but then it's only through Christ's grace that you're saved:

23 Therefore, ^acheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are^bfree to ^cact for yourselves—to ^dchoose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.

24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, ^areconcile yourselves to the^bwill of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the ^cgrace of God that ye are ^dsaved.

Great verse, similar to 2 Nephi 26:25 that talks about grace being the way we're saved.

Offer yourselves as a sacrifice: be a good, faithful person

A concept that helps show that a believer is one who acts the right way as well as says he/she believes is in Romans 12 as well as in Omni 1 in the Book of Mormon.

There Paul talks about the need to offer oneself as a sacrifice. What is sacrificed? The bad things someone may be inclined to do:

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your ^abodies a living ^bsacrifice, holy, ^cacceptable unto God, which is your reasonable ^dservice.

Offer yourselves as an offering to God. Become the person he wants you to become. This is a reasonable ask from God who gives so much and sacrificed his Son to allow us to become like Him eternally. Omni 1 gives a similar message:

26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should ^acomeunto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and ^boffer your whole souls as an ^coffering unto him, and continue in ^dfasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.

Once again, offer your souls to Christ, continuing in fasting and praying to keep the faith, and if you keep faithful to the end, you're guaranteed salvation. Once again, a great tradeoff for being faithful.

Returning to Paul's message - he then spends the rest of Romans 12 giving examples of what it is to offer yourself as a sacrifice to God. It's doing what he asks: weeping with those that weep (see also Mosiah 18:8-9), showing mercy happily, not being evil to those who are evil to you, having faith, cleave to that which is good, love truly, etc.

Being good to people, and believing in the Lord's efforts on our behalf, and following his messages through prophets is the way to happiness and offering as a sacrifice.

Baptism - a new opportunity

Paul speaks of coming to Christ, leaving sin, and receiving grace in Romans 6. He ties this in to baptism, thus it becomes quite clear that baptism is necessary to come to Christ (while circumcision clearly isn't based on Chapters 4 and 5).

Also, continuing to sin is not okay - just because Christ can cover your sins doesn't mean that you should sin so that grace can abound. Important to not sin once you've accepted him, in your heart and through baptism.

Here's a few of Paul's thoughts on baptism, accepting Christ, leaving sin, and grace:

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that ^agracemay abound?

2 ^aGod forbid. How shall we, that are dead to ^bsin, live any longer therein?

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were ^abaptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4 Therefore we are ^aburied with him by ^bbaptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the ^cdead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should ^dwalk in ^enewness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the ^alikeness of his^bdeath, we shall be also in the likeness of his ^cresurrection:

6 Knowing this, that our ^aold man is crucified with him, that the^bbody of sin might be ^cdestroyed, that henceforth we should not serve ^dsin.
