Luke 12 pushes the disciples to trust in God in all things and to focus on building the kingdom of God, not in building their own riches. He also says that the disciples should be able to recognize when Christ is about to come again because there will be plenty of signs.
Our day is near the time of his coming. This is a peculiar time in the history of the world because of all the advancements in technology. There are many signs of Christ's coming and the changing world, and the increase in wickedness, and the increase in temples, and the growth of the Church are all messages to the world that He will come again.
It is important to be able to recognize the Lord in our lives as a weatherman can recognize patterns in the weather. Jesus explains this in Luke 12:
54 ¶And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
